The kingdom community reveals the riches of community. The kingdom community is both model and gift.
As model the kingdom community encompasses the hall-marks of community at its zenith. As gift it offers us four gifts of grace. These gifts are founded on and draw their social energy from the 4Ss (Page 3). However, even more fundamentally, they are founded on and draw their spiritual energy from the Trinity. They are core gifts described by Christ throughout his teaching on the nature of the kingdom, earthed in his life and by his death and resurrection. I call these gifts of the kingdom community, the 4Ls – life, liberation, love and learning.
- The gift of life is grounded on – but transforms – a sense of security.
It is empowered by God as Creator.
- The gift of liberation is grounded on – but transforms – a sense of significance.
It is empowered by Christ as Liberator.
- The gift of love is grounded on – but transforms – a sense of solidarity.
It is empowered by the Spirit as Unifier. .
- The gift of learning is grounded on – but transforms – the process of socialization. It is empowered by the Reality of the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – as a divine learning community.
These gifts are universal and inclusive gifts. They are offered to all irrespective of culture, creed, or class. They cannot survive if collectives seek to keep them for themselves.
Without discerning the presence and accessing the power of the gifts of the kingdom community, we will always struggle to get even take off in our attempt to transform our fragmented world into a global community of communities.
